The Week Ahead

This is the last big week of the year and there are a lot of potential catalysts during the week. I will really attempt to wind down and switch off next week until the new year. I have found this Christmas period to be a bad time to trade, family is around, routine is broken and volume tends to be very light. This is something to think about into the year end. Take your opportunities to refresh when the market is light.

There are some great earnings this week with a focus on RCAT interests me Monday having been a big runner last few months, MU likely the most watched report along with NKE and FDX, Homebuilder LEN likely gets attention too. I’ve added some others as highlights but they are secondary to those mentioned above. We also had the Nasdaq100 rebalance which added MSTR, PLTR to the QQQ. Both of these were widely anticipated so I am watching them but cautious of initial sell the news.

China Industrial & Retail numbers for November are dropping tonight (Sunday). This may put China in play next week. The FOMC Decision is on Wednesday, .25% rate cut expected but we may get volatility depending on commentary for 2025. Expect the usual slew of speakers and market whips on this. US PCE Friday morning. We will also have Vladimir Putin’s annual press conference on Thursday which may cause some market whips, or rallies. Not something I’m going to be focusing on but worth noting.

PS: There are many ways to trade stocks in play. It does not have to be the one that keeps going straight up and sometimes it doesn’t even have to be day one of the catalyst. Everyone must find a setup, timeframe and method that works for them. This list is supposed to educate on the criteria I use and the methods in which I find Stocks in Play. Yours may differ and that is completely okay.
