The Week Ahead : April 7th - 11th 2025

Highlights: NFLX, TSM, UNH, ASML, Short Week!

The Week Ahead

Tariffs are still the big story. Social media is up and down over the weekend. Yesterday we were all confident the market would be limit up after exemptions were announced for big tech. However Lutnick has urinated all over that today with comments that exemptions are temporary and more tariffs are on the way.

I am now focusing on earnings. This week the clear star is NFLX but there are important bellwether earnings in ASML, UAL, UNH, TSM and DHI. I normally look to trade important earnings in real time after hours. I think this is going to be quite difficult this season as guidance will be pulled or a lot more color given on the calls. That being said I believe there will be some clear ‘‘Tariff Winners & Losers’’ which will be identifiable and tradeable. So I am thoroughly concentrating again on Stocks in Play and will be trying to push the Tariff noise into the background as I believe it will be less relevant to my trading unless they truly ramp it up again.

Those that obsess about these narratives and try to analyze them too much eventually get caught in a loop of their own bias. I think on the QQQ we have room to push to $470/75 before any move back to the downside. Watching VIX this week, we need that to drop. It’s likely we gap up Monday. I’m expecting that to fade but be buyable late on Monday evening. (This is just a probable scenario and may not happen!)

Short week this week. Market is closed Friday. Expect lower volume moves. Usually I try to trade less on these weeks.
