Honorable Mention to: GME - Ryan Cohen bought 500k shares of GME bringing his total ownership to 8.4%. With their upcoming plans to go full Bittard this is interesting. I think crypto is one sector that might be in play today. Seeing other strength in names MARA, MSTR. GME also has the ultimate MEME standard. The market may not be conducive to a real move but I felt it was the only thing worth mentioning today considering the state of the market.

Market Awareness

Yesterday we closed at the lows. Today I am thinking we have a bigger chance at a reasonable bounce. Non Farm Payrolls will be out before the market opens and Powell speaks at 11:25am. We are accelerating to the downside on the China retaliatory tariffs.

Right now even if we do turn and rally here I’m not sure I like any risk over the weekend. The headline risk is too high. Watching the VIX today and hoping for a big spike into the highs. Yesterday was relatively lackluster considering the drama. T2018 is into oversold but this seems like a market event where it can go to extremes.

No shame in going outside this morning and starting your weekend early!

Same as yesterday I am looking at ETFs and not so much individual names. Intraday bounce is likely and I want to play that. Hit and run nothing fancy. Earnings season kicks off next week. There is an interesting situation here where analysts will be guiding estimates way down due to tariffs and companies will be removing guidance or else guiding down also. Those that exceed their guide or guide up will really move.

PS: There are many ways to trade stocks in play. It does not have to be the one that keeps going straight up and sometimes it doesn’t even have to be day one of the catalyst. Everyone must find a setup, timeframe and method that works for them. This list is supposed to educate on the criteria I use and the methods in which I find Stocks in Play. Yours may differ and that is completely okay.
