TLDR Stocks in Play: UAL, HTZ, Leveraged ETFS

Welcome to today's Stocks in Play report. Below are the key stocks to watch, along with brief x-ray and analysis.

Quick note today: I have gotten a lot of new Subscribers overnight after a couple of top traders very kindly mentioned this Newsletter on X. (Jeff Sun & Monis) So I felt it a good time to quickly reiterate that there are many ways to trade Stocks in Play. You can trade them intraday on Day 1 (as I do) or wait for delayed continuation swings. These articles are meant to be short snappy and actionable. Sometimes the picks will be duds and sometimes they will be monsters that is the name of the game. This is essentially a direct look at my daily routine and stock selection. How you use the information here is up to you. I’m always happy to discuss trades or answer questions on X or by email. Hope you enjoy the Newsletter!

If you find this Newsletter helpful and ever want to say thank you then feel free to Buy Me a Coffee. It’ll inspire me to work faster….

1) United Airlines (UAL) (Rating: B-, Single-Day)

Industry Group: Airlines, Market Cap: $22b, Float: 326m, Short Interest: 6%, Days to Cover: 2.2, Exchange: NASDAQ

Catalyst: Strong Beat on EPS ($0.91 vs est. $0.74), Revs Inline, Large Beat on Margins and Cost Controls. Management commentary was realistic but upbeat. Guide remained unchanged however they outlined the case in a recession situation. Sentiment and expectation will have been low here so overall this report is a beat in my opinion. Stock has held up very well overnight.

Honorable Mention to: HTZ - Bill Ackman taking stake in HTZ. I usually don’t particularly like these 13F Filings but worth noting this one. 40% Short Interest, 7.6 Days to Cover. 136m Shares float, $1b market cap. Low Priced Stock (Under $5). The stock is severely beaten down.

Leveraged ETFs - I think today is a day for market correlation on any headlines. So Leveraged ETFs like the TQQQ, FNGA etc. are better than searching for substandard news on individual names. Especially if the VIX stays strong. Negative ASML Earnings & NVDA China export restrictions likely put SOXS in play today also.

Market Awareness

After initial overnight panic in the Futures we seem to be recovering here this morning. Likely due to China opening a door and giving an off ramp for everyone to actually begin some sort of discussion here. Regardless of the outcome the market will welcome this development. I’d guess the Trump administration will also.

You can see how I am viewing the Chart below. So nothing really changes here for me. I expect volatility today however I don’t see why the US Administration would not grab this olive branch so I see potential for a big rally here. Of course this may get spiked by another ratchetting of the situation via a Presidential tweet and if that happens then it’s simple to just stand aside. Worth also noting that Fed Chair Powell will speak today at 1:15pm ET.

Remember it is a short week so we have two days left into a long weekend.

After Hours I’m Watching: AA, KMI, CSX (Earnings)

Tomorrow Morning I’m Watching: SCHW, BX, UNH, ALLY, DHI (Earnings)

PS: There are many ways to trade stocks in play. It does not have to be the one that keeps going straight up and sometimes it doesn’t even have to be day one of the catalyst. Everyone must find a setup, timeframe and method that works for them. This list is supposed to educate on the criteria I use and the methods in which I find Stocks in Play. Yours may differ and that is completely okay.
